Key Responsibilities
- Develop, modify, and maintain three-dimensional CAD models, assemblies, components, and engineering drawings for mechanical and structural applications.
- Prepare, simplify, modify, and export CAD geometry for structural, thermal, fluid, manufacturing, and other engineering analyses.
- Design or support the design of mechanical components, structural hardware, mechanisms, fixtures, ground support equipment, payload-support equipment, and fluid-system hardware.
- Perform or support mechanical and structural analyses, including finite element analysis, stress analysis, modal analysis, fatigue evaluation, and structural-performance assessments.
- Evaluate mechanical designs, load paths, interfaces, materials, tolerances, and operating environments to identify potential performance or integration issues.
- Develop and review engineering drawings using applicable geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles and standards.
- Support design-for-manufacturability activities involving machining, welding, fabrication, assembly, inspection, and supplier coordination.
- Support mechanical and structural integration, verification, qualification, and testing, including hardware preparation, test execution, and evaluation of test results.
- Support troubleshooting, root-cause investigations, and corrective-action activities involving mechanical hardware, production issues, test failures, or reliability concerns.
- Review engineering requirements, designs, analyses, test data, and technical documentation to identify issues, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support engineering activities involving spacecraft structures, mechanisms, docking or separation systems, payloads, cargo systems, fluid-system components, and related flight or ground hardware.
- Coordinate with manufacturing personnel, technicians, suppliers, test engineers, and other engineering organizations to support hardware fabrication, integration, and delivery.
- Use product lifecycle management and configuration-control systems to maintain engineering models, drawings, technical data, and design revisions.
- Collaborate with structural, thermal, electrical, propulsion, avionics, fluids, reliability, mission-design, and systems-engineering teams to evaluate interfaces and integrated performance.
- Prepare and communicate technical findings, analysis results, design recommendations, and supporting documentation.
- Support resolution of mechanical, structural, manufacturing, integration, and test issues throughout the engineering lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Three or more years of combined relevant engineering experience involving mechanical design, mechanical or structural analysis, aerospace hardware, integration, testing, reliability, or related work. Relevant internships, co-op assignments, and substantial applied engineering project experience may be considered toward this requirement.
- Hands-on experience using Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Creo, or an equivalent three-dimensional CAD platform.
- Experience creating or modifying mechanical components, assemblies, CAD models, analysis geometry, or engineering drawings.
- Experience preparing or interpreting engineering drawings and applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles.
- Experience with finite element analysis, stress analysis, modal analysis, fatigue analysis, or another mechanical or structural analysis method.
- Experience supporting mechanical or structural design, manufacturing, fabrication, hardware integration, testing, or production activities.
- Ability to evaluate technical problems, assess engineering data, and develop practical recommendations.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering, manufacturing, supplier, and test organizations.
- Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
