The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Instructor provides hands-on and classroom instruction to military and civilian personnel on the safe, efficient, and effective operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a variety of heavy equipment used within the U.S. Army depot. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Instructor ensures all training aligns with Army safety standards, technical manuals, and mission requirements, preparing personnel to operate and maintain heavy machinery in both depot and field environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct classroom and field instruction on the operation, maintenance, and safety procedures for heavy equipment such as forklifts, cranes, bulldozers, loaders, excavators, graders, and tactical vehicles.
- Develop, update, and maintain training materials, lesson plans, operator guides, and assessment tools in accordance with Army regulations and technical publications.
- Evaluate student performance through practical and written examinations, providing feedback and retraining as necessary."
Demonstrate and enforce Army and OSHA safety protocols and environmental compliance during training sessions. - Maintain training records, attendance logs, and certification documentation in accordance with Army and depot policies.
- Inspect and maintain training equipment to ensure operational readiness and compliance with maintenance schedules.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of new training programs or simulators.
- Collaborate with depot supervisors, safety officers, and logistics personnel to ensure training aligns with operational needs and mission readiness.
- A Minimum of five years of verifiable experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment in a military or industrial environment.
- At least two years of experience delivering technical or operator training preferred.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a United States Government Secret Clearance and Common Access Card (CAC).
- OSHA 10/30 Certification (or ability to obtain).
- Army Equipment Operator Certification (e.g., DA Form 348) preferred.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B.
- In-depth understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with Army Technical Manuals (TMs) and maintenance procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of Army and OSHA safety standards related to heavy equipment operation.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills for clear instruction and documentation.
- Proficiency with training aids, simulators, and digital learning platforms.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb onto equipment, and work in outdoor environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior military service (especially in MOS 62E, 12N, 91L, or related fields).
- Certification as an Army Master Driver or Instructor.
- Experience with depot-level maintenance and logistics operations.
- Experience developing or delivering computer-based training.
Work Environment:
- This position involves work in both classroom/shop and field environments.
- Exposure to noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, and weather conditions may occur.
- Appropriate PPE and adherence to safety procedures are required at all times.
