Description
The Golf Club at Via Mizner (Boca Raton, Florida) has an immediate opening for a Golf Course Superintendent to supervise the overall maintenance of the 18-hole course. This position will report to and work closely alongside the Director of Agronomy to learn all aspects of the property and manage the golf course.This position involves supervising staff, designation of assignments, equipment, safety operation/training, applying chemicals and fertilizers, calibration skills, irrigation repair, operation and troubleshooting, course setup, and any other task the job requires.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented leader, a self-starter with practical knowledge of golf course maintenance, positive leadership skills, motivated, with a passion for the golf course industry.
We are looking for a candidate who leads by example through an engaged management style, team-building and motivational abilities, a strong eye for detail and an understanding of the importance of following up on assigned tasks to ensure that they are completed properly and efficiently. Qualified candidates will thrive in a hospitality environment and be focused on providing excellent playing conditions for our members and their guests.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•
Work effectively in a dynamic environment with a collaborative atmosphere, oversee multiple tasks concurrently, pay attention to details, and meet deadlines.
•
Daily golf course set up and initial inspection, daily course conditioning.
•
Responsible for employee supervision, scheduling, and training. Conducts safety and staff meetings. Training of new and existing employees on job function, equipment operation, including assignment-specific training, member service standards and departmental information.
•
Inventory control, chemical, irrigation, fertilizer. Evaluation of products and services related to present and future needs.
•
Assists in the procurement of supplies and materials, ensuring costs stay within budget.
•
Assists in planning and effectively perform application of pesticides and fertilizers. Duties include fertilizer and pesticide applications, water management, course set up and maintenance, evaluation, usage, and record-keeping.
•
Final daily course evaluation/inspection.
•
Irrigation supervision and maintenance. Working knowledge of irrigation systems and ability to repair.
•
Safely operate standard golf course maintenance equipment including but not limited to mowers, aeration equipment, tractors, backhoe, sprayers, etc.
• Assist the Director of Agronomy in developing short and long-term strategies to maintain the course and with the coordination all golf course maintenance program.
•
Collaborate with the Director of Agronomy and employees to maintain a positive work environment including communication, training, discipline, and evaluations.
• Ensures all company policies and procedures are followed including compliance with government regulations.
• Communicates with golf operations to accomplish all tasks required by scheduling needs of the golf course and its operation.
• Communicates and coordinates with other departments to ensure the best outcome for members.
• Take pride in the work, follows policies and procedures, demonstrates good listening, organizational and management skills.
• Exhibits a professional demeanor to best represent The Club.
• Capable of building rapport and effective communication with staff, members & guests.
• Performs other task as assigned.
Education, Requirements and Work Experience:
•
Associate' or Bachelor's degree, or certificate in Turfgrass Management/Golf Course Management or related field from an accredited institution.
•
Minimum of 4 years related experience with a progressive career track is preferred.
•
Valid Florida driver's license and satisfactory driving record
•
Valid Florida pesticide license or ability to obtain within 60 days.
•
GCSAA Member preferred but not required.
•
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and competent general computer skills.
•
General golf course maintenance experience. Requires knowledge of irrigation, fertilizer application as well as current chemical practices.
•
Knowledge of the maintenance practices employed on golf course putting greens, tee, fairways, roughs, and bunkers; planting and culture of turfgrasses used on golf courses; the planting, cultivation, and pruning of ornamental plants, shrubs, and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditions; pesticide control methods and materials; drainage methods; and watering practices and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps, and automatic controls.
•
Knowledge of the game of golf and its associated rules preferred.
•
Experience and capability in strategic planning and staff management.
•
Knowledge of agronomy and related practices, including fertilization and pesticide applications.
•
Budgeting and expense management experience preferred.
•
Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor conditions.
• Knowledge in the care and maintenance of warm season turf grasses.
• Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
•
Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communications skills, including ability to direct a diverse, multi-lingual workforce.
•
Ability to analyze and solve problems and efficiently manage multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision.
•
Maintains and demonstrates professional conduct.
•
Ability to take direction operate effectively and cooperatively with employees, management, and members.
