POSITION SUMMARY:
The General Maintenance Worker performs a variety of tasks in the upkeep, repair, and servicing of, facility systems and grounds. Work involves a combination of duties in exterior grounds surfaces and storm water systems. The worker uses common hand and power tools, reads simple drawings and instructions, and follows established procedures to complete assigned tasks.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2-4 years general maintenance, facilities or building repair experience
- Basic knowledge of multiple trades (carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and masonry).
SKILLS AND ABILITES:
- Ability to read and interpret simple work orders, diagrams, and instructions.
- Skill in using hand tools, power tools, and basic testing equipment safely and effectively.
- Familiarity with safety practices, OSHA standards, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Experienced in all commercial building and construction safety and code compliance.
- Strong computer skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Essential Functions:
- Remove all fallen trees, limbs, and debris after periods of heavy wind, hail, ice, snow, rainfall.
- Remove standing trees, stumps, and debris in accordance with requests from Government
- Fill holes with topsoil
- Seed and mulch bare ground
- Perform various tasks related to drainage, including but not limited to:
- Draining water from flooded areas
- Fixing drainage problems for buildings and earthworks
- Maintaining ditches
- Grading
- Adding topsoil
- Re-seeding land.
- Perform maintenance and repair services for ground structures including, but not limited to:
- Playgrounds and playground equipment
- Drainage culverts or systems
- Athletic fields.
- Remove any shrubs, trees, or fences necessary to excavate
- Unearth and remove any debris blocking work area
- Return all work areas to original state or better
- Fill holes
- Grade surfaces
- Replace landscaping
- Seed or mulch the excavation area
- Maintain all graded, paved, or stabilized (other than grass) areas used for vehicular, aircraft, track vehicle, or pedestrian traffic, including:
- Roads
- Streets
- Service drives
- Walks
- Parking areas
- Open storage areas
- Airfield paved areas.
- Repair, install, enhance, replace, remove, and inspect:
- Traffic regulatory signs
- Warning signs
- Guidance and yield signs
- Informational, reflective, reserved, and safety signs on paved or unpaved areas.
- Paint special signs such as:
- Building numbers
- Street signs
- Directional signs
- Regulatory signs
- Individual group reserved parking signs
- Safety signs
- Boundary signs
- Fire prevention signs
- Classified activity access signs
- Control signs
- Off limit signs
- Restricted area signs
- Medical activity signs
- Special events signs.
- Perform scheduled maintenance of the storm water features such as outfall structures, headwalls, and Storm Water BMPs such as wet/dry detention basins, bio-retention and filtration basins, permeable pavement, and vegetated swales.
- Clean and remove debris from drop inlets and manholes.
- Conduct inspection, routine maintenance, repair, and enhancement work of the bio-retention and infiltration basins.
- Perform all routine, monthly, and annual inspections
- Common maintenance work shall include, but not be limited to:
- Unclogging outlets
- Vegetation management
- Debris removal
- Assist other trades with setting up for special events
- Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit for prolonged periods
- Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, reach, stretch, kneel, and squat.
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks or motions for prolonged periods.
- Some climbing and balancing.
- Must have sufficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time.
- Must be able to work in personal protective clothing and equipment, such as coveralls, safety glasses, and gloves.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This is an Onsite position that requires work to be performed onsite at an Aleut location.
- This position involves working in non-office environments.
- You may be expected to varying temperatures, inclement weather, noise, dust, mist, and fumes.
- The role requires the ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory and includes safety glasses, fall protection harness, protective-toe footwear, gloves, hard hats, and hearing protection.
- High noise levels are common with general maintenance.
- Must have the ability to maintain assigned work hours.
- Must have sufficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time.
- Potential work hazards include electrical shock and noise-related risks.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Position will require rotating on-call ability within the department.
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background screening and drug test.
- Must be able to obtain a favorable National Agency Check (NAC) per contract.
- Must complete all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
- Must be proficient with the English Language per contract.
