What You Will Do
- This position fulfills TRIO program grant requirement of providing high school science instruction during the summer academy.
- Instructor will focus on teaching chemistry and exploring chemistry-related careers during the 6-week summer academy.
- They will create engaging project-based lesson plans and provide instruction to a diverse age group of high school students.
- The summer course will supplement the core instruction provided during the academic year at the high school.
- The TRIO Upward Bound program works to prepare students to have the skills they need to succeed in high school and college.
- It is not a traditional summer school, but rather a learning community where students expand their mind, gain independence, and participate in a simulated college experience.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
-Bachelor's degree in science, applied science, public health, medicine or applicable science subject matter.
Preferred Qualifications
-Master's degree in science, applied science, public health, medicine or applicable science subject matter.
-One year working or volunteer experience in a classroom setting teaching at high school level, preferably science courses.
-Experience working with high school population.

About Extra Help Positions:
Extra Help job listings typically close three days after the opening date, unless specified in the closing date. Extra Help employees are appointed to fulfill casual or emergent needs within the university. The amount of time for which services are needed is not usually predictable and payment for work performed is on an hourly basis and based on actual hours worked. Workdays and hours may vary according to departmental requirements. Extra Help employees do not receive SIUE benefits, holiday pay or paid sick or vacation leave.
Extra Help employees are required by State Universities Civil Service System rules to take a 30-calendar-day break after working 900 hours. At the end of the 30 days, you may begin another 900-hour employment cycle in a new position if available. Working Extra Help will in no way affect any other employment opportunities with SIUE, including your position on and Civil Service register. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment.
Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position.
Illinois residency requires proof of a valid Illinois Driver's License or state of Illinois ID Card. Failure to produce the required documentation within 180 calendar days will result in immediate termination of employment.
Pre- Employment Screening: All external candidates who receive a job offer will be required to undergo pre-employment screening for this position. The screening process will encompass a criminal background check and, where applicable, other background checks such as a drug screen, verification of employment and education or licensure/certification, reference checks, and/or checks with relevant government registries. Please note that all job offers are contingent upon successful completion of the required screening process.
Additional Information: SIUE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States and visa sponsorship for this position will not be provided. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status.
