Job Description: RSi is looking to fill an Equipment Operator to support our NASA customer. The Equipment Operator handles a wide range of heavy machinery—including cranes, clamshells, power shovels, graders, loaders, carryalls, bulldozers, rollers, scrapers, and large industrial tractors—to excavate, load, move, and grade soil, gravel, and other materials. The role requires strong operational skill, the ability to interpret grade and slope stakes or simple plans, and the capability to perform basic maintenance and emergency repairs to keep equipment functional.

Job Duties: 

• Operate cranes, shovels, loaders, bulldozers, tractors, and related heavy equipment.
• Excavate, load, transport, and grade dirt, gravel, and various materials.
• Interpret grade stakes, slope indicators, and simple construction plans.
• Grease, adjust, and perform minor emergency repairs on equipment.
• Monitor equipment performance and report mechanical issues promptly.

  
  

Qualifications and Experience: In general, the work of the Equipment Operator requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

Work Environment: Indoor and outdoor working environments. May include test areas, test stands, laboratories, chambers, machine shops, cold and hot weather environments, heights, and confined spaces.  

Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation):  

• Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and working in awkward positions to access work areas
• The use of tools associated with the position 
• Lifting up to 40 lbs.
• Must use proper PPE for all tasks

Other Essential Functions (with or without reasonable accommodation):  

• Must be able to communicate with peers, supervisors and customers
• Must be able to work independently or in a team
• Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions

Clearance: Must meet eligibility for a Public Trust background investigation for government issued credentials and IT access. Applicants must be able to pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements.
