The City of Toppenish is seeking a Director of Community Infrastructure and Development for this welcoming small town situated about 20 miles southeast of Yakima, WA. Toppenish is known for its 75 hand-painted, historically accurate murals and unique museums that celebrate hop farming, railway history, and Yakama culture, all set amid rich agriculture, nearby wineries, and a charming downtown shopping district.
THE CITY OF TOPPENISH
Located in the heart of the Yakima Valley, the City of Toppenish serves a population of approximately 8,658 and encompasses 2.17 square miles within Yakima County. Incorporated in 1907, the City operates under a council–manager form of government, with a seven-member City Council. The Council appoints a City Manager who serves as the City’s chief executive officer. The City of Toppenish operates with 52 FTEs across eight departments and a 2025 budget of $29.8 million.
THE DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE AND DEVELOPMENT
Reporting to the City Manager, the Director of Community Infrastructure and Development coordinates infrastructure improvements, public works operations, and development services to promote effective community growth. This is a unique opportunity to provide leadership across Public Works, Community and Economic Development, Planning and Land Use, Fleet and Facilities, and Information Technology in a small-community environment where directors wear multiple hats and work collaboratively with staff, residents, boards and commissions, and elected officials. The role combines hands-on operational oversight with long-term strategic planning to ensure efficient service delivery and sustainable development.
