R&D Software Engineer

Reports To:

Applicable R&D Manager

Position Summary:

Working as part of the R&D organisation, the role demands a significant and imaginative contribution to the design and development of lifesaving defibrillator technology and support applications.

This is an individual contributor role that requires the use of judgement in applying professional expertise and is expected to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Technical Responsibilities:
  • To assist in the design/development of a new product or system.
  • To support the modification, redesign, or maintenance of existing products
  • To support problem solving, identify potential solutions, and evaluate them against requirements.
  • Under supervision, conduct research and studies to support product design.
  • To identify, specify and implement debugging and test requirements for his/her designs and/or existing products.
  • To design to specification and generate the required documentation for each phase of the design cycle.

General Responsibilities:
  • To understand and apply the Company Quality Procedures and actively contribute to and within, the company's Quality System
  • To understand and apply all appropriate Regulatory and Safety Requirements to any product/project design undertaken or proposed
  • To document design changes according to Company Quality Procedures
  • To identify suppliers for new components, software and technical equipment
  • To maintain awareness of the latest technologies and design methodologies
  • To attend and contribute to Design Review meetings
  • To provide support to Manufacturing as required
  • To support all company products in house and at customer premises
  • Undertake any external visits as and when required
  • To maintain awareness of Company Health and Safety Policy and Fire Evacuation Procedure and take all reasonable precautions against personal harm and/or injury

Any other duties deemed necessary by the R&D Director/Software Manager/Principal Software Engineer/Engineering Manager

Qualifications Knowledge Skills:

  • Qualifications:

Level 6 degree in Software Engineering/ Computer Science or related discipline.
  • Experience:


Desirable

Experience working within a regulated quality system

Experience working with sensors and/or Internet of Things

Cyber Security

Bugzilla

Source control systems

Medical Device Software
  • Specific Knowledge:

Essential

C and/or C++ and/or similar high-level languages

Windows Software Development

Desirable

Experience with integrated development environments (IDE) for projects.

Experience with tools for static/dynamic analysis, memory management, code coverage and techniques for analysing software.

Software Development Life Cycle processes.
