Basic Purpose
Facilitates emergency preparedness throughout the Company's service territory. Ensures respond to, recover from, and resume business operations after a natural or human caused disasters or emergencies. Ensures company is an integral participant in external emergency response and recovery planning activities, and ensures lines of communication and coordination are established with local/state governments, interdependent utilities, public safety, and other agencies.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures the development and maintenance and exercising of company readiness plans, procedures, systems, and communication capabilities to ensure corporate response to and recovery from emergency events.
Ensures the readiness of the company's primary and alternate Emergency Operations Centers (EOC) to respond to major emergencies through the training of EOC members, conducting drills and exercises, and maintaining the EOC manual and facilities.
Ensures company is an integral participant on various state/regional disaster recovery forums with emergency management representative from local/state governments, utilities, and other agencies to ensure external communication and coordination is established and maintained.
Provides coordination with public safety, and other emergency response agencies, during emergency operations and events. Provides for utility agency representation, or liaison, at incident command briefings or emergency operations centers where appropriate. May also request support from other departments to represent the company in cases where specific knowledge is required.
Conducts training and exercises to adequately test the integration and effectiveness of company emergency plans.
Supports company compliance with local and state regulatory requirements for emergency planning and response through internal coordination and Mutual Assistance Agreements.
Promotes employee emergency preparedness by identifying and providing to employees emergency preparedness guides and materials that will assist in their individual preparedness and allow them to be available to perform their duties at the company in event of an emergency/disaster.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Associate degree in homeland security, emergency management, safety, criminal justice or related field, from an accredited school and 3 years of related work experience in emergency planning, training, exercises, coordination, and implementation. Possess and maintains a Nevada Driver's License (Class C).
Candidates that do not possess an associate's degree must have a minimum of 5 years of related work experience in emergency planning, training, exercises, coordination, and implementation. Possess and maintains a Nevada Driver's License (Class C).
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:
- Planning and coordinating multi-agency training (functional, table top, or full scale) for business continuity.
Skills such as:
- Leading multiple departmental personnel to achieve organizational goals.
- Presentation, team-oriented, customer service, organizational, and interpersonal.
- Oral and written communication skills to document and transmit information accurately and understandably.
- Critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving and decision-making.
- Prepare policies, plans and procedures and convey information to various levels of management and employees.
Equipment and Applications
PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office environment. Frequent in-town or outside the state travel and some overnight travel required. Requires field coordination and other resolution of field oriented emergencies. Some standing and walking long distances may be required.
